AS9120 CERTIFIED AEROSPACE SUPPLIERS GET READY FOR 777X’S LAUNCHING (DEMO)

Boeing, one of the world’s leading aerospace companies, leads the way in improving aviation by creating even bigger and faster commercial jets. After the 787 Dreamliner (which brought large-jet ranges to midsize airplanes) and the 777 (which displayed higher cruise speeds through its longer wingspan), Boeing is set to launch its newest family— the 777X— this fall. The new jet units, which will be delivered in 2020, are expected to be the largest and most efficient twin-engine jets in the world.

In his article for BizJournals.com, writer Steve Wilhelm discusses how the government sees the economic benefits of the project, as invitation for suppliers to Washington will become easier and more lucrative for Alex Pietsch, the governor’s aerospace adviser.
“Pietsch said the fact that Boeing is planning to assemble the re-engined, re-winged and stretched 777X in Everett has transformed his ability to recruit aerospace companies. That decision made earlier this year was linked to a union vote to accept a controversial long-term contract, and state leaders said at the time that the 777X decision would be crucial to the industry’s future.”
Quality is a prime concern in the creation of the latest aircraft, especially because Boeing aims to keep their models unmatched by any competition. The supply chain has to be strictly in compliance with the highest aerospace standards like AS9120 to ensure that all specifications will be met. Besides suppliers, other sectors are expected to take advantage of the opportunity, which shall also be subjected to standardization.
“We’re seeing interest in other sectors as well, UAVs, it’s not just 777X support,” he said. “The Boeing supply chain is broader than that, but I think building off that momentum (the 777X) has the most interest.”
In any commercial aerospace development projects, obtaining an AS9120 certification is crucial for both suppliers and manufacturers. Aside from becoming globally recognized as a reputable supplier, the certification will help increase customer satisfaction, reduce operating costs, and improve stakeholder relationships by streamlining production and operating system. Any aerospace companies, not just those that seek opportunities from the 777X launching, must consider getting AS9120 certification through accrediting firms like International Standards Authority, Inc.
